MEMBERS’ NEWS

The Cut

For his solo show, the legendary Scottish sculptor Bruce McLean is showing sculpture, painting, ceramics, films, a flag, the design and making of a school, posters, records of performance -all examples of his extraordinary range of art activity over the last 60 years. Bruce will be in The Cut on September 9th for the Private View, with hospitality sponsored by Fishers Gin. And as part of this show, The Cut will be showing Arts Club member Eileen Haring Woods’ new film made with Bruce. A signed, limited edition of the show poster will be available.

The chapel-like interior of the Dovecote Space was the inspiration for this exhibition. At the core of the show are three large drawings on vintage nautical charts memorializing the last 12 fishing boats gradually disintegrating on Aldeburgh beach. Further groups explore the themes of coastal loss to the sea and Caroline's visual interpretation of the Shipping Forecast alongside a group of paintings based on the ex-voto model boats found in seaside churches and chapels across Europe.
